Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS): Apothecary Bees, Using the Honey Bee as a Tool for Drug Discovery

PhD International Undergraduate Scholarship funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and provided by the Wales European Funding Office (WEFO) in the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG). This project aims to find new antimicrobial agents to register the help of bees. Honey antibacterial effects have been observed for more than a century and has been widely used as an additional therapy for wound dressings. Activity of honey is due to various factors including the nature of hyper-osmotic sugar, hydrogen peroxide production by natural enzymatic reactions, metabolic byproducts, such as Methylglyoxal (MGO), peptides derived bees and chemical-plant donated by the plant. PhD International Undergraduate Scholarship

The International Undergraduate Scholarship are available to students who wish to enter the PhD programme in Economics or Business Administration, in the framework of either the 5+3 programme or the 4+4 programme. A 5+3 PhD scholarship is granted to applicants who have completed an MSc in Economics, Mathematics and Economics, Business Administration or similar. The International Undergraduate Scholarship runs for three years. A scholarship in the 4+4 programme is given to applicants who have passed the fourth year of their Master’s programme or the equivalent. The scholarship runs for a period of four years. For the first two years you will be enrolled in the PhD programme and the Master’s programme parallel to each other. During that period your pay will consist of a combination of SU student grants and salary for job assignments. After obtaining the Master’s Degree, you will enter into a salaried PhD scholarship. Pay and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
